Who is eligible for the program?
High schools, Native American tribes, and student nominees must all meet specific criteria to be eligible to participate in the program.
School eligibility
All public schools and many private schools in the state of Washington may nominate students for the Regents Scholars program.
Eligible public schools include:
- All public high schools on the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) list.
Eligible private schools include:
- OSPI-approved private schools with OSPI reported enrollment of at least 100 in grades 9 through 12 (schools must have students enrolled in at least 3 of the 4 high-school grade levels).

Tribal eligibility
Native American tribes whose traditional boundaries include portions of Washington state, and who have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University, are eligible to nominate students for the Regents Scholars program.

Student eligibility
To qualify for nomination, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be a junior in an eligible high school and a Washington state resident, or be a high school junior nominated by a participating Native American tribe.
- Have a qualifying combination of high school GPA and standardized test scores. Use our online calculator to check your eligibility.
- Be nominated by your high school or Native American tribe.
Note: Students who are nominated with a PSAT score must submit a qualifying SAT or ACT score by July 18 to be considered for the Silver and Distinguished award levels.
To receive a Regents Scholar award, students must attend Washington State University in Pullman and meet the program's renewal criteria.
