Answers to some common questions
When should I apply in order to be considered for the Regents Scholarship?
We are encouraging students to apply early! Students should ask for a recommendation as soon as they start the WSU admission and scholarship applications (admissions and scholarship applications are available online beginning in mid-September). The scholarship selection process will start in October and end January 31.
Can a student receive both a UAA and a Regents Scholarship?
No, the Regents Scholars award cannot be combined with the University Achievement Award (UAA).
Does a recommendation guarantee a Regents Scholarship?
No, a recommendation from a high school representative or tribal council member does not guarantee a scholarship award. (However, a recommendation does improve a student's chances.)
Do I need a certain GPA or test score to qualify?
There is no prescribed minimum. However, the standards are very high. Your academic record isn't the only consideration, but it is a primary factor. Most students who have received Regents Scholarships have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.8 or better. (More about what WSU looks for when awarding Regents Scholarships)
Is there a deadline for recommendations?
Recommendations are due January 31 (the same day that admission and scholarship applications are due).
Does it matter if a recommendation doesn't arrive at the same time as the admission and scholarship applications?
No. A recommendation can arrive before or after the student completes the applications, and will be matched to the student’s applications once they are complete.
How will I be notified?
Notification will be sent by WSU Admissions and Scholarship Services to students and to their recommenders.
